To Everything There is a Season

To Everything There is a Season

With every new season of the year comes new ways to make additional revenue in our industry. We know the easy ones, such as:

  • One Day Room Makeovers

  • Decorating and or Staging

  • Consultations

  • Redesign Consultations

  • Color Consultations

  • Shopping

  • But here are a few other ideas.

Design Refresher

Contact former clients and offer to come back in and refresh the room makeover you did a year or so ago. The cleaning person has moved things or perhaps they have purchased some other things, but the room does not have the polish it had when you left. Charge your hourly rate and perhaps a package price for the rooms they did not have you redesign. Send them a mailer or even better a colorful card from Send out Cards with a photo of their room’s after. They will love the gentle reminder.

Out with the old, in with the new (season that is)

Seasonalizing adds dollars to your bank account. Promote this by sending a card with a before and after (winter) room. It could even be your own living room with the room showing the winter look next to a room ready for spring. Offer to go out and purchase new floral, new candles, new pillows, etc. to "spring" up their space.

Take up the rug and expose the floors, put up the blankets and throws etc. Make it a package. On package amount includes shopping and the spruce - up. I would love for someone to do that for me, wouldn't you?

BOOKCASE SPECIALIST our new discipline in the industry. A bookcase Specialist is a new and exciting certification especially for a new comer. Check it out at The-DSA.com and see if it is for you.

Event Planning

Look at the calendar and thing is it the time for weddings, birthday parties, Mother's Day, Father's Day. Because decorating professionals are creative and can think outside the box, we are very good at event planning. We are fun, organized, and great problem solvers. This skill set crosses many creative lines. Try it, you just might like it.

Spruce up package (Beyond Spring Cleaning)

Many of us love to organize. Now I don't mean cleaning someone's basement or garage or organizing kitchen cabinets, linen closets, bedroom closets, pantries, But these things do give a home the detailing that is associated with a car detailing the extras that everyone wants but few do.

Become the Details General Contractor on the project. Work as a team you do the organization and the vendors do the work. Put together the package. It is a win win.

Have a list of

  • Professional organizers

  • A handyman

  • Window washer

  • Painters

  • Carpet shampoo professionals

  • Cleaning teams

Remember you get paid for being the contractor and a referral fee from the vendor.

The most important component to all of this is the marketing. You are going back to an existing client, reminding them how good you are at what you do. I can almost guarantee you that you will get other rooms when you suggest any of these services to your clients. Develop a great marketing campaign with colored postcards with Send out Cards. Remember, the business adage that 80% of your business will come from 20% of your old customers. It takes less money to keep an old client than to find a new one.

Enjoy these fresh revenue streams, I hope your mind is whirling with the potential. Let us know how these ideas work for you.
